Frequently asked questions

Plain answers to the questions we get most often. If something isn't covered here, try the help center after you sign in, or submit a support request.

One thing up front: West Michigan Home Pros does not verify licenses, insurance, or bonding, and does not get involved in disputes between users. Both homeowners and Pros are responsible for their own actions, communications, and business dealings.

General

What is West Michigan Home Pros?
A two-sided marketplace that connects homeowners in Southwest Michigan with local tradesmen (Pros) for home services — electricians, plumbers, HVAC, roofers, painters, landscapers, and more.
How does it work in plain English?
Homeowners post a job for free. Local Pros that match the trade and county see it and can express interest. The homeowner reviews interested Pros and connects with the ones they want to talk to. Up to 4 Pros can engage per job. The homeowner chooses one to hire.
Does it cost anything for homeowners?
No. Posting a job, browsing Pros, and using the platform is free for homeowners.
How do Pros pay?
Pros pay a flat monthly or annual subscription for access. There's no per-lead fee and no commission on the jobs they complete. The subscription is non-refundable. See our Terms of Service.
Where does the platform operate?
Southwest Michigan — Kalamazoo, Van Buren, Calhoun, Allegan, Kent, Ottawa, Barry, St. Joseph, and Berrien counties.

For homeowners

How do I post a job?
Create a homeowner account, click Post a Job, and tell us the trade, scope, budget range, urgency, and county. Local Pros see it and can express interest.
What does it mean when a Pro is “Interested”?
A Pro who clicks Express Interest has reserved a slot on your job. You can view their profile and decide whether to open a conversation. Until you connect, your name, address, and contact details stay hidden from them.
What happens when I “Connect” with a Pro?
Connecting unlocks the conversation with that one Pro — they can see your first name and message you directly. Other interested Pros remain locked unless you connect with them too. You can connect with up to 4 Pros per job.
How do I hire a Pro?
On the job page, click Hire next to the Pro you want. They're notified and the job is marked Awarded. Every other interested Pro is automatically released.
Can I cancel a job?
Yes. Open the job and use Cancel Job. Any active engagements become Lost. You don't owe anything for cancelling.
Does the platform verify Pros (license, insurance, bonding)?
No. All credentials are self-reported. We don't verify, confirm, or endorse anything a Pro claims about their license, insurance, or bonding. You are responsible for independently verifying anything that matters to you. For Michigan license lookup: Michigan LARA.

For Pros

How do I get jobs as a Pro?
Set up your profile, add the trades you serve and the counties you cover. Jobs posted by homeowners that match show up in your Find Jobs feed. Click Express Interest to reserve a slot; you can also submit a bid while waiting for the homeowner to connect.
Are subscription fees refundable?
No. All subscription fees are non-refundable, including periods you didn't use, periods you received no leads, and any unused portion of an annual plan. You can cancel at any time — cancellation stops the next renewal but does not refund the current term.
How many active leads can I hold?
By default, eight simultaneous active engagements (engaged or bidding). Once you reach the limit, you can't express interest on new jobs until one of your current engagements ends.
How many Pros can be on a single job?
Four by default. Once four Pros have engaged, the job is hidden from everyone else. If one withdraws, a slot opens back up.
When can I message the homeowner?
Only after the homeowner Connects with you. Before that, the homeowner's identity (name, address, contact) is hidden, and the message form is locked. You can still submit a bid before the homeowner connects.
I withdrew from a job. Can I get back in?
Yes — if a slot is still open and the job hasn't been awarded, you can click Re-engage from the job page.

Policies, privacy, and support

Why can’t I share phone numbers or addresses in chat?
Contact details are blocked in messages so the conversation stays on the platform. This protects both sides and keeps a record in case of a dispute. After hiring, parties can share whatever they need outside the platform.
How is my personal information used?
Homeowner identity (name, address, phone) is hidden from Pros until you explicitly connect with them. Even after you connect, Pros only see your first name and city — never your last name, phone, address, or email.
Does West Michigan Home Pros get involved in disputes between users?
No. We do not investigate, mediate, arbitrate, or otherwise participate in disputes between a homeowner and a Pro (or any two users), including disputes about work quality, scope, payment, scheduling, property damage, or anything else. Each user accepts full responsibility for their own actions, communications, and business dealings. See Section 8 of our Terms of Service.
Is there phone support?
No. All support goes through our support form. Phone tag and voicemails make problems harder to solve — submitting a request keeps every detail in one place so we can route and resolve faster.
How do I report a problem with the app?
Submit a support request. Choose the category that fits (app issue, payment / Square issue, etc.). We respond by email, usually within 1–2 business days.

Still have a question?
